This is how we teach our first grade Sunday School students the books of the Bible. The signs/motions usually help the kids remember the books. I've had high schoolers tell me they still remember Habakkuk. :) Below are the signs/motions we do and the explanation of the books of the OT are in parenthesis. Genesis: #1 (beginning) Exodus: #2 pulled behind back (escape) Leviticus: L raised to the sky (talks about the priests) Numbers: wave fingers and move hand back a forth (numbers of people wandering in the wilderness) Deuteronomy: 2-book (2nd law-giving) Joshua: fist in air (led the people to the promised land) Judges: fist into palm of opposite hand (military leader for 350 years) Ruth: trace hair with fingers (God cares for us) 1 Samuel: #1-s shape with arms (talks about Samuel) 2 Samuel: #2-s shape with arms (talks about kings) 1 Kings: #1-crown with hands (talks about kings) 2 Kings: #2-crown with hands (talks about kings) 1 Chronicles: #1-opening scroll (talks about king! s) 2 Chronicles: #2-opening scroll (talks about kings) Ezra: hands together like praying (rebuilt the temple) Nehemiah: hands stacking bricks (rebuilt the wall) Esther: crown with hands (God can use me) Job: JB (testing) Psalms: song/music (worship) Proverbs: think (wise sayings) Ecclesiastes: think with opposite hand under elbow (more wisdom) Song of Solomon (Song of Songs): love (love) Isaiah: fingers under eyes (coming Messiah) Jeremiah: crying (the weeping prophet) Lamentations: fists under eyes ...
